Taxes & Fees

Understanding the government taxes, surcharges, and fees in your airfare.

1. Airfare Price Composition

The total price you see on FareBuzzz includes the base airfare plus all applicable taxes and fees. We believe in full transparency — there are no hidden charges at checkout.

2. Government Taxes

Government-imposed taxes are mandatory and vary by country and route. Common taxes include:

  • U.S. Federal Excise Tax: 7.5% of the base fare for domestic flights within the United States.
  • Flight Segment Tax: $4.80 per domestic flight segment (subject to annual adjustment).
  • September 11th Security Fee: $5.60 per one-way trip for flights originating at U.S. airports.
  • Passenger Facility Charge (PFC): Up to $4.50 per airport, maximum of $18.00 per round trip.
  • International Departure/Arrival Taxes: Vary by country, typically $15–$70 per direction.

3. Carrier-Imposed Surcharges

Airlines may add surcharges that are included in the ticket price:

  • Fuel Surcharge (YQ/YR): Varies by airline and route, ranging from $20 to $400+ for long-haul flights.
  • Insurance Surcharge: A small fee to cover airline liability insurance.

4. Airport & Facility Fees

Airports charge fees for using their facilities, which are passed through in the ticket price. These include terminal use fees, security screening costs, and customs/immigration processing fees for international travel.

5. FareBuzzz Service Fee

In addition to airline and government charges, FareBuzzz applies a service fee to cover booking assistance and customer support. See our Service Fees page for details.

6. Baggage Fees

Baggage fees are not included in the ticket price and are charged separately by airlines. Fees vary by airline, route, and fare class. We recommend checking the airline's baggage policy before travel.
